Srinagar, December 16: The Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) on Tuesday launched a major operation against a terror network operating under the guise of social activism. Coordinated searches across several districts of the Valley led to the detention of 12 suspects for questioning.

The operation was carried out after obtaining appropriate authorization through a search warrant from the Special Judge Court designated under the NIA Act in Srinagar. The case was initiated based on credible intelligence information that certain individuals in Jammu and Kashmir were using mass media, social media, human rights organizations, environmental and women empowerment platforms to carry out activities seriously detrimental to the sovereignty, integrity and security of India. A covert investigation further revealed suspected links with separatist groups and banned terrorist organizations.

The investigation also revealed that some of these individuals were allegedly in contact with Pakistan-based terrorist handlers using encrypted communication applications. They are suspected of spreading false narratives, glorifying terrorists and terrorism, radicalizing vulnerable youth, and being actively involved in efforts to systematically disrupt public order and peace in Jammu and Kashmir.

Based on this information, 12 locations were identified and searched in Srinagar, Baramulla, Anantnag, Pulwama, Kupwara, Budgam, and Shopian, the CIK said in a statement. During the operation, 12 suspects were detained for questioning. A large amount of incriminating digital material was seized, including 10 mobile phones, 1 laptop, and 14 SIM cards, which are now undergoing detailed forensic examination. The seized digital evidence is expected to reveal deeper layers of the conspiracy.
