Lucknow, December 13: A Class IV employee, injured in a road accident on Friday evening in Lucknow’s PGI Kotwali area, died in hospital on Saturday during the treatment. The employee’s wife and the loader driver were injured in the accident, police said.

The PGI Station House Officer (SHO) Dhirendra Kumar Singh said the accident occurred near the Vrindavan Yojana Sector-7, Chiraiya Bag Shaheed Path Bridge. Anil Sharma, a resident of Kharika, was riding his bike with his wife Sarita Sharma toward Vrindavan Yojana on Friday evening when a speeding loader struck their bike. The impact was so severe that the bike trapped under the loader, dragging the couple for about 10 feet. Following the accident, the loader driver abandoned his vehicle and tried to flee the scene when an unknown vehicle coming from the opposite direction caught him, injuring him as well.
Acting upon a tip-off, the PGI Kotwali police arrived at the scene and transported the injured to the Apex Trauma Center. Anil Sharma died during treatment on Saturday. Sarita Sharma suffered fractures in both legs, while loader driver Manish also suffered serious head injuries, although he is conscious.
The station in-charge stated that upon receiving information about the incident, a police team arrived at the scene and immediately rushed the injured to the hospital. Both vehicles have been seized. The cause of the accident is being investigated. Anil Sharma worked as a Class IV employee at Shakti Bhawan.
