Lucknow: Carpenter, buried under gambling debts, commits suicide

Lucknow, December 12: An elderly man hanged himself on Friday in the Para police station area of โ€‹โ€‹Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh. Police arrived on the scene and sent the body for postmortem and began investigating the case, apprised police.

The Para police station in-charge Suresh Singh said that Vijay Kumar Lodhi (58), a carpenter living in Kundan Vihar Colony, was a carpenter. His family includes his wife Ram Janaki, sons Vinod and Vivek, and daughters Mamta and Sarita. The carpenter hanged himself this morning.

The SHO further told that regarding the incident, the family revealed that Vijay was addicted to gambling, which had led to significant debt. This caused him to suffer mental stress and had reduced his communication with family members. The family suspects this is the reason Vijay hanged himself.

The station in-charge stated that no suicide note was found at the scene during the investigation. Information received from the family and preliminary investigations suggest the case is a suicide, however, all aspects are being thoroughly investigated.
