Criminal killed in encounter in Shamli, SHO narrow escaped, one constable injured

Shamli, December 9: An inter-state criminal carrying a reward of โ‚น 50,000 was killed during an encounter in Shamli district of Uttar Pradesh in a joint operation by Thana Bhawan area and Babri police team. Twenty-eight cases were registered against him in several police stations in Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Telangana and Rajasthan, police informed.

A police constable was also injured in this operation and has been admitted to the hospital for treatment.

The Superintendent of Police (SP) NP Singh said on Tuesday that the criminal gunned down in the encounter has been identified as Samaydin alias Sama, a resident of Mohalla Raizadgan in Shamli district. A reward of โ‚น 50,000 was announced on him.

The SP said that late last night Thana Bhawan was tipped that the criminal with his associates was hiding in a closed brick kiln in village Bhasani Islampur.

Upon receiving this information, the Station House Officer (SHO) Bijendra Singh Rawat and SHO Babri Rahul Sisodia arrived at the scene with their forces on whom the criminals opened fire wherein one bullet struck Babri SHO’s bulletproof jacket, while another injured constable Anuj Yadav.

According to the SP, in retaliatory fire, the criminal, Samaydin, was injured. The criminal and the constable were taken to the Central Health Center for treatment, from where they were referred to the Shamli District Hospital. Doctors declared the wanted criminal dead during treatment, while constable Anuj is undergoing treatment. Police recovered 9mm and 32-bore pistols and cartridges from the criminal killed in the encounter.

The Superintendent of Police stated that Samaydin, alias Sama, was a notorious criminal and a history-sheeter with the Kandhla police station. He would come with his gang to commit crimes. A total of 28 cases of robbery, loot, and theft were registered against him in Shamli, Saharanpur, Karnataka, Telangana, and Jaipur, Rajasthan. Other associates of the criminal killed during this encounter have escaped in the dark, and a combing operation is underway to search for them.
