Sonbhadra mining accident: One body recovered, several still trapped under debris

Sonbhadra, November 16: Over a dozen workers working at a depth of 150 feet were buried under debris that fell due to a landslide in a stone quarry in the Obra police station area of Sonbhadra district of the Uttar Pradesh.

The NDRF and SDRF teams engaged in rescue operations recovered one body on Sunday morning. The work to recover the remaining bodies is underway a war footing.

Additional Director General of Police Piyush Mordia said on Sunday morning that the work of removing the debris that fell from the hill has been going on continuously since Saturday night. The NDRF and SDRF teams are continuing the rescue operation. This incident occurred at the Krishna Mining Mine in the Billi Markundi mining area. A body was recovered on Sunday morning. The family identified the recovered body as 30-year-old Raju Singh God, son of Triveni Singh God, a resident of Panari village.

The ADG stated that since the stones that fell from the hill are quite large and deep, great care must be taken to remove them. Adequate equipment and resources have been deployed to remove the debris, and the entire district administration has joined the relief effort. Work is underway on a war footing.

The District Magistrate (DM) B.N. Singh stated that detailed information regarding the situation is being obtained from the officers and employees involved in the relief work. Any workers who were killed or injured in this incident will receive 100% benefit from the schemes run by the Labor Department. The administration is committed to this.
