Dhaka, November 12: The Bangladesh has categorically rejected Indian media reports claiming that Hafiz Saeed, chief of Pakistan-based terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba, used Bangladesh soil to plan attacks in India.

“Whatever happens, the media will try to blame us. But there is no reason to believe this. No sensible person will do that,” Bangladesh’s Foreign Affairs Adviser Mohammad Touhid Hossain said while talking to reporters at the Foreign Ministry here on Tuesday evening.

In response to another question, he said that the United Nations has not issued any comment on the letter sent by two London-based UK lawyers representing former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina regarding the ongoing case against her at the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT, Bangladesh). Hasina and three others are accused of crimes against humanity. British lawyers have challenged the fairness of the ICT trial in an appeal to the United Nations.

Meanwhile, when asked about possible US sanctions on Bangladesh’s purchase of arms from China, the adviser said, “We are not taking sides. We maintain balanced relations with everyone, and we will continue to do so. I don’t think we will face any sanctions.”

The comments came after international media reported on Monday that at least eight people were killed and several others injured in a vehicle explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort. Following the blast, security has been tightened across India.
