New Delhi, November 10: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken stock of the situation following the car explosion near the Red Fort on Monday.
According to sources, the Prime Minister spoke with Union Home Minister Amit Shah over the phone and inquired about the incident and security arrangements.
Expressing concern over the incident, the Prime Minister said that public safety is the top priority and all necessary steps should be taken immediately to prevent a recurrence of such incidents. Earlier, Home Minister Amit Shah immediately spoke with the Delhi Police Commissioner and directed the immediate deployment of teams from the National Security Guard (NSG), National Investigation Agency (NIA), and Forensic Department to the spot.
According to sources, Amit Shah has taken the incident seriously and has asked the security agencies to investigate every aspect. The Home Minister is reportedly in constant touch with the Director of the Intelligence Bureau (IB) and the Delhi Police Commissioner, and is monitoring the entire incident.
According to senior Delhi Police officials, the blast occurred inside a suspicious car near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station around 7 p.m. on Monday. The surrounding area was immediately sealed off, and the bomb disposal squad launched a search operation. Forensic teams are collecting samples to determine the cause of the explosion.
Sources said that the NSG and the NIA teams are conducting a detailed investigation of the scene, along with the Delhi Police. CCTV footage installed around the site is also being reviewed to determine activities before and after the blast.
The police have not yet issued an official statement regarding the incident, but preliminary investigations indicate that the explosion was low in intensity.
Officials stated that only after the investigation is complete will clear information be available regarding the cause of the blast and a possible conspiracy.
