New Delhi, October 28: The Central Government on Tuesday approved the formation of the 8th Central Pay Commission. This Commission will submit its recommendations within 18 months from the date of its formation. The proposal to this effect was approved in the Union Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Information and Broadcasting (I&B) Minister Ashwini Vaishnav informed about the Cabinet decision in a press conference at the National Media Centre here. Vaishnav said that the 8th Pay Commission will be a temporary body. The Commission will consist of a Chairperson, a Member (part-time), and a Member-Secretary.

He said that this Commission will submit its recommendations within 18 months from the date of its formation. The government had announced the formation of the 8th Pay Commission in January to examine and recommend changes in the salaries and other benefits of central government employees.

Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai (Retd.) will be the Chairperson of the Commission. Professor Pulak Ghosh will be a member, and Pankaj Jain will be the Member-Secretary of the Commission.

Pay Commissions are constituted from time to time to consider various issues related to the remuneration structure, retirement benefits, and other service conditions of central government employees and to make recommendations on necessary changes. Typically, the recommendations of the Pay Commission are implemented every 10 years. Accordingly, the recommendations of the 8th Pay Commission are expected next year.
