11-year-old girl dies due to cobra bite, chaos in the house

Mirzapur, 03 September: The 11-year-old girl died due to cobra bite late on Tuesday night in Banjari Kalan village of Drummond Ganj police station area of district Mirzapur. The incident created chaos in the entire family.

Priyanka (11), daughter of Santlal Vishwakarma, a resident of Kothara Basti, was coming out of her concrete house. A cobra sitting outside the door suddenly bit her in the leg. When the frightened girl ran towards the house, the snake got pressed by her leg and bit her again. Hearing the scream, her mother Parvati reached the spot, by then the girl started fainting. The family was taking her to Chhatriha village in an attempt to exorcise and cure her, but Priyanka died on the way.

Upon receiving the information, ‘Sarpmitra’ Vivek Mishra, resident of Gadbada Dham, who reached the spot on Wednesday morning, safely caught the three feet long spectacled cobra hidden behind a sack in the room and left it in the forest.

He told that this species is extremely poisonous and in case of snakebite, the patient should be immediately taken to the hospital instead of wasting time in exorcism.

On receiving information about the incident, Sub Inspector Trilochan Pratap Singh and Head Constable Moolchand Verma reached the spot and sent the body for post mortem. Village headman ( gram pradhan) Sanjay Singh consoled the family members and assured them of all possible help from the government and informed SDM Lalganj.
