Cabinet approves Lucknow Metro extension

New Delhi, August 12: The Central Government has today approved Phase-1B of the Lucknow Metro Rail Project. Under this project, 12 stations will be built on the 11.165 km long metro line. The aim of the project is to expand the Lucknow Metro network by 34 km, which will improve the public transport system in the city.

The expansion of the Lucknow Metro Project was approved in the Union Cabinet meeting held on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav informed about the decisions of the Cabinet in a press conference at the National Media Center.

He said that the aim of the new metro network is to connect busy areas of old Lucknow like Aminabad, Yahiyaganj, Pandeyganj and Chowk. This will connect important medical institutions like King George Medical University. Apart from this, major tourist places like Bada Imambara, Chhota Imambara, Bhool Bhulaiya, Clock Tower and Rumi Darwaza will also be connected through this metro project.

The project will provide access to major food destinations that promote Lucknow’s rich food culture, thereby giving a new dimension to the development of the city.
