National Sports Governance Bill and Anti-Doping Amendment Bill passed in LS

New Delhi, August 11: Amid heavy uproar, the Central Government on Monday passed the National Sports Governance Bill and the National Anti-Doping Amendment Bill in the Lok Sabha. Both these bills were introduced in the House by Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya during the current monsoon session. During this, the House was chaired by BJP’s elected MP Sandhya Rai.

The National Sports Governance Bill aims to regulate various sports administrators in the country, while the National Anti-Doping Amendment Bill provides more “operational independence” to the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) as per the instructions of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). The purpose of these bills The National Anti-Doping (Amendment) Bill, 2025 aims to enhance the institutional and operational independence of the National Anti-Doping Appeal Panel and the National Anti-Doping Agency to ensure autonomy in their operations, investigation and enforcement decisions.

Sports Minister Mandaviya said in the Lok Sabha, “This bill will be the biggest reform in sports since independence. Through this bill, we hope to realize the dream of ‘Ground to Glory’. It will strengthen the accountability and professionalism framework, give more opportunities to women and ensure justice for our players.”
