New Delhi, July 21: The Vice President (VP) Jagdeep Dhankhar on Monday resigned from his post with immediate effect citing health reasons. In a letter sent to President Draupadi Murmu, he said that his decision is based on medical advice.
In his resignation letter, Dhankhar expressed his gratitude to the President and appreciated the cooperation and cordial relations he had with her during his tenure. He also thanked the Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers and said that he got to learn a lot during this tenure.
Dhankhar said that he will preserve the affection, trust and respect he received from the MPs in his memories. He described the experiences and knowledge he gained while serving as Vice President as invaluable. He said that it was a matter of pride for him to witness India’s economic progress and historical changes.
In his letter, he expressed pride in India’s global reputation and achievements and expressed unwavering faith in the country’s bright future.
It is noteworthy that Jagdeep Dhankhar took over as the 14th Vice President of India on August 11, 2022. He has resigned under Article 67(A) of the Constitution. Before taking over as Vice President, he has been the Governor of West Bengal and MP from Rajasthan.
As Vice President, he was also playing the role of Chairman of Rajya Sabha.
