New Delhi, July 2: The National Institute of Public Cooperation and Child Development (NIPCCD) has been renamed as Savitribai Phule National Institute of Women and Child Development (SPNIWCD). The move reflects the emerging role of the institute and a greater focus on area-specific, mission-driven help for the development of women and children across the country. The decision was taken in the presence of Union Women and Child Development Minister Annapurna Devi.

Women and Child Development Minister Annapurna Devi said in a press conference at the ministry on Wednesday that renaming NIPCCD as Savitribai Phule National Institute of Women and Child Development is a tribute to the legacy of one of India’s leading social reformers. The move reaffirms the government’s commitment to women and child-centric development.

Speaking on the significance of setting up the new regional centre in Jharkhand on Friday, the Union Minister said that the inauguration of the new regional centre in Ranchi will be an important step towards decentralised, region-specific capacity building in the eastern region. This centre will not only empower our frontline workers by providing better access to training and support, but will also strengthen our key missions at the grassroots level.

She said that under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, it is being ensured that no woman or child is left behind in the goal of making India a developed nation by 2047.

It is worth mentioning that NIPCCD is now renamed as Savitribai Phule National Institute for Women and Child Development, which is headquartered in New Delhi and currently has regional centres in Bengaluru, Guwahati, Lucknow, Indore and Mohali. It serves as the apex body for training, research, documentation and capacity building in the field of women and child development. The institute plays a vital role in strengthening the implementation mechanism under various flagship schemes through its online and physical training programmes.
