Allahabad HC gives relief to Sambhal MP in ‘due’ power bills payments

Prayagraj, 06 June: The Allahabad High Court has stayed on the order of May 15, 2025 issued in the demand of payment of electricity bill arrears of about โ‚น two crores in the residence of the Samajwadi Party MP Zia Ur Rehman in Sambhal.

The High Court has told the SP MP that he will deposit Rs 6 lakh within two weeks with the opponent number 3, Executive Engineer Electricity Distribution Section, Sambhal. The court has directed to restore the electricity connection with immediate effect on his doing so.

This order has been passed by the division bench of Justice SD Singh and Justice Sandeep Jain on the petition filed by the SP MP. The High Court has given three weeks time to the advocate of the Power Corporation to get the necessary information in this matter and has fixed the date of July 2 for hearing on the petition.

SP MP’s advocate Vidhan Chandra Rai said that 4138 days old assessment has been done on the petitioner. It has been said that there is no right to do 12 year old assessment. It was said that there is right to do assessment up to 365 days. The advocate argued that the Executive Engineer has made a legal mistake by passing such an order.

According to the case, Executive Engineer Electricity Distribution Section Sambhal had passed an order on May 15, 2025 and demanded 1 crore 91 lakh against the petitioner. This 4138 days old electricity bill payment was demanded.
