Lucknow, June 06: A miscreant, carrying a reward of Rs 1 lakh, was killed in Lucknow police encounter on late Thursday night. He was absconding in the case of raping a two-and-a-half-year-old girl in Alambagh police station area.
According to the police, an accused was seriously injured during an encounter and admitted to the hospital where he died during treatment.Â
DCP Central Ashish Srivastava told reporters that on June 5, a couple lodged a complaint in Alambagh police station that their two-and-a-half-year-old girl was raped. After registering the case, five teams were formed. On the basis of CCTV footage, the accused was identified as Deepak Verma, a resident of Aishbagh, through a scooty. A reward of Rs 1 lakh was announced on him. On Thursday night, information was received that the accused was trying to escape somewhere. When Alambagh police tried to stop him, he opened fire, in retaliation, he was injured by a police bullet. He was admitted to KGMU for treatment, where doctors declared him dead during treatment.Â
DCP said that the accused is a railway vendor, who used to sell water and work as a tableau performer in Jagran part time. An FIR was also registered against him in an old case.Â
