Lucknow, June 1: The officials on Sunday holiday of the Assembly Secretariat have canceled the assembly membership of Abbas Ansari, who was sentenced to two years in prison by the court.
The Secretariat has also sent information about the Mau assembly seat being vacant to the Election Commission.
It may be noted that Mukhtar Ansari’s son Abbas Ansari became MLA for the first time by winning the election from Mau Sadar assembly seat. In a hate speech case, the special court on Saturday held him guilty and sentenced him to two years. There is a legal provision for losing the membership of the assembly in case of a sentence of two years or more in any case. Ever since Abbas was sentenced, there were speculations about his losing the MLA post.
On Sunday, the Assembly Secretariat has canceled Abbas Ansari’s assembly membership in this regard. Information has been sent to the Election Commission. Now the Election Commission will take a big decision.
Assembly Principal Secretary Pradeep Dubey told reporters on Sunday that Abbas Ansari’s assembly membership has been terminated. A proposal has been sent to the Chief Election Officer of UP to hold a by-election. With this, the possibility of a by-election on the Mau Sadar seat has increased. Abbas Ansari’s father Mukhtar Ansari was also an MLA from this seat. Abbas had threatened in an inflammatory speech in an election rally during the assembly elections and said that he would see things when his government came to power. Abbas Ansari was arrested in this case. Now the court has sentenced him to two years of imprisonment.
