Northeast plays pivotal role in achieving the goal of developed India: PM Modi

New Delhi, May 23: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the ‘Rising North East Investors Summit 2025’ at Bharat Mandapam here today.

On this occasion, he described the Northeast as the engine of the country’s development and said that this region is full of immense possibilities of development. The Prime Minister urged investors from the country and the world to become partners in the development of the Northeast.

He expressed confidence that the path to developed India will pass through the Northeast in the coming years.

The two-day (May 23-24) Rising North East Investment Summit aims to present the Northeast as a land of opportunities, connect investors and promote dialogue with policy makers. It focuses on key sectors like tourism, food processing, textiles, health, education, IT, logistics, energy and sports.

Addressing the program on this occasion, Prime Minister Modi addressed the Northeast as ‘Ashtalakshmi’ and said that the region is full of huge possibilities in areas like trade, tourism, bio-economy, bamboo industry, tea production, sports, energy and skill development.

He said that the changes that have taken place in the Northeast in the last 11 years are not just figures. Changes are visible at the ground level. Citing the visits of Union Ministers more than 700 times, he said that this region has now become a leader in India’s development journey under the policy of Look East to Act East.

During this, the Prime Minister gave information about the development done in the Northeast. He said that 11 thousand km of highway construction, mega projects like Bhupen Hazarika Bridge and Sela Tunnel, Northeast Gas Grid, 4G/5G network and 13 thousand km of optical fiber network have been done in the Northeast. These projects have created a situation of first mover advantage for the industries.

The Prime Minister described the Northeast as the bridge of India-ASEAN trade and said that India-ASEAN trade will soon cross $200 billion. Logistics hubs in Guwahati, Imphal and Agartala and land custom stations in Mizoram and Meghalaya will give a new dimension to international trade.

Prime Minister said that in the last decade, more than 10 thousand youth have left arms and joined the mainstream. This has promoted tourism. Homestays, new tour guides and cultural events have increased in villages. Also, under the Heal in India campaign, the Northeast is being made a center of wellness tourism.

He said that with an investment of 21 thousand crores, 800 schools, 9 medical colleges, 2 IITs and the country’s first sports university are being built in the Northeast. Also, startups, digital innovation and skill centers are opening for the youth. With the rapid investment in hydro and solar power in the Northeast, the Prime Minister announced that soon the region’s first Made in India chip will be ready, which will bring revolutionary changes in India’s semiconductor sector.

Scindia, Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha, Minister of State for Development of North Eastern Region Dr Sukanta Majumdar were present in this program.
