Babbar lion ‘Pataudi’ dies during treatment in Kanpur Zoo

Kanpur, May 15: 15-year-old Babbar lion Pataudi, who fell ill after suspicion of bird flu in Shaheed Ashfaqullah Khan Zoo of Gorakhpur, was brought to Kanpur Zoo for treatment where he suddenly died on Thursday during treatment, informed Dr. Anurag Singh.

Dr Anurag Singh told that female tigress Shakti died mysteriously on May 6 in Gorakhpur Zoo. Avian influenza virus was confirmed in the post-mortem report. Meanwhile, the condition of 15-year-old Babbar lion Pataudi also deteriorated. He was brought from Gorakhpur to Kanpur Zoo for treatment. In view of security, the zoo was closed from Tuesday, May 13 to Monday, May 19.

He informed that for better treatment of Babbar lion Pataudi, a team of four people including a doctor was looking after him from the zoo administration. Pataudi, who was suffering from liver ailments, had not eaten anything since Wednesday evening. He had even stopped drinking water.

Dr Singh said that when there was no movement in his body on Thursday and he was examined, he had already died. At present, the zoo has been closed for people as a precautionary measure and monitoring is being done to protect other animals from the outbreak of bird flu.
