Kathmandu, May 10: This season’s mountaineering expedition has begun on the world’s highest peak Mount Everest. After all the routes were connected with ropes and stairs by the various organizations coordinating the climbers for climbing Mount Everest, the climbers also started mounting from Saturday.
ATK Expedition Company told the media that the seven-member Sherpa team deployed by them opened the door for climbing by installing ropes on the way to the peak of Everest on Friday. Along with Mount Everest, ropes were installed for the climbers on the peak of Mount Lhotse and Mount Amdablam.
The Tourism Department has said that with the completion of the path to the peak of Everest, climbing on other peaks including Everest officially started on Saturday. Tourism Department Director Liladhar Awasthi said that this year the Everest climbing season has officially started. The number of climbers is expected to be the highest in the first phase as the weather is favorable.
Mountaineer Lakpa Sherpa, Managing Director of ATK Expedition Company, said that the maximum number of climbers is likely to reach the peak from May 11 to 14 as the weather is favorable for climbing Everest.
This season, world record holder Kami Rita Sherpa is going to try to break his own record by climbing Everest for the 31st time. Similarly, Tashi Gyaljen Sherpa has reached Everest with a plan to create a world record by climbing Everest four times in 20 days. Another such world record holder Sanu Sherpa is planning to break his record by climbing mountains above 8,000 meters for the third time.
The climbers have started climbing Everest by taking permission for 75 days of climbing from the Tourism Department. The climb to Everest lasts about 40 days.
According to the data of the mountaineering branch of the Tourism Department, so far 421 people from 44 mountaineering groups have obtained permission to climb Everest.
