Farmers not only the beneficiaries of schemes, but also co-partners in the growth of UP: Yogi

Lucknow, May 04: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that the farmers of Uttar Pradesh will not only be beneficiaries of schemes, but will also become active partners in the overall development of the state.

He said that “In the new Uttar Pradesh of the new India, agriculture will not only be a source of livelihood, but will also become the basis of prosperity and self-reliance.”

Discussing the updated status of the agriculture sector in the review meeting of the Agriculture Department on Sunday, Chief Minister Yogi said that 11.41 percent of the total agricultural area of ​​the country is in Uttar Pradesh, but the state’s share in food grain production is 20.89 percent, which is a proof of the hard work of the farmers and the effective policies of the government. While food grain production was 557.46 lakh metric tonnes in 2016-17, it has increased to more than 725.12 lakh metric tonnes in 2024-25. More than double increase has been recorded in pulses and oilseeds production during the same period. The Chief Minister reiterated his resolve to take this achievement to new heights.

Laying special emphasis on the quality and suitability of seeds, the Chief Minister directed that seeds should be developed according to climatic zones.

He directed to prepare separate seeds for early and late sowing, ensure certification and make them available to farmers at subsidized rates. He also asked the Uttar Pradesh Seed Development Corporation to increase the amount of seed purchase from farmers and ensure the availability of processed seeds. While giving instructions to immediately start the establishment of the proposed Chaudhary Charan Singh Seed Park in Lucknow, the Chief Minister described it as the basis of revolution in the seed sector.

Expressing the need for maximum use of institutions like Uttar Pradesh Agricultural Research Council, the Chief Minister called for accelerating technology-based agricultural innovations. He stressed on making the process of subsidy on agricultural equipment transparent.

CM said that extensive publicity should be done before taking applications from farmers. In the selection process, it should be ensured that farmers from maximum development blocks are benefited.

Expressing special enthusiasm about ‘Shri Anna’, the Chief Minister directed to make its promotion and procurement system more robust.

He also expressed seriousness about the promotion of natural farming and said that an effective system of certification of organic products should be developed, so that farmers can get better market price.

It was informed in the meeting that 2.81 crore farmers have been benefited so far under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana. The Chief Minister called it a living example of transparency and good governance in farmer welfare.
