Dehradun, May 03: Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand has taken a historic step and has got the pride of becoming the first district in the country to establish its own mobile network. Under this, devotees visiting sacred ‘Kedarnath Dham’ have now started getting free WiFi facility.
After a successful trial on Saturday, this facility was dedicated to the devotees. The devotees who reached to pay obeisance at ‘Kedarnath Dham’ have expressed happiness over this and thanked the government and the district administration for this.
The state government and district administration are constantly making new efforts to ensure that the journey of devotees coming across the country and overseas on the Char Dham Yatra is pleasant and smooth. Kedarnath Dham Yatra, one of the most difficult religious hikes in the country, has set a new record in this direction.
Under the guidance of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and the initiative of District Magistrate Saurabh Gaharwar, the disaster-sensitive Rudraprayag district has taken a historic initiative and established its own mobile network. This network has been named “District Disaster Resource Network”. This network will not only operate continuously in case of disaster or any critical situation, but it also has the facility of mobile data, voice calling and high quality CCTV visuals.
Under this resource network, devotees are now going to get the facility of free WiFi.
Chief Development Officer GS Khati said that to take advantage of WiFi, one has to go to the WiFi setting and register his mobile number, after which an OTP will come on the mobile number, after filling which high speed WiFi can be availed for half an hour.
The first model of the country
Rudraprayag has become the first district in the country to have its own separate and complete mobile network. During the disaster on the Kedarnath footpath in July 2024, when other mobile networks had completely failed, this network became a lifeline for travellers, labourers and rescue teams. This helped the people stranded on the way to contact their homes and also helped immensely in relief and rescue operations.
