Ex R&AW chief Alok Joshi to be the chairman of the National Security Advisory Board

New Delhi, April 30: The government has reconstituted the National Security Advisory Board (NSAB) and former Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) chief Alok Joshi has been appointed as its new chairman. Its aim is to strengthen India’s national security system amid rising regional tensions.

According to sources, the newly constituted seven-member board includes former senior officers of the armed forces, police and diplomatic services. The new members include retired military officers Air Marshal PM Sinha (former Western Air Commander), Lieutenant General AK Singh (former Southern Army Commander), Rear Admiral Monty Khanna (retired military officer), Rajiv Ranjan Verma (former IPS officer), Manmohan Singh (former IPS officer) and B Venkatesh Verma (retired IFS).

It is noteworthy that the National Security Advisory Board (NSAB) is an important institution of the Government of India, which works to advise the Prime Minister’s Office on matters of national security and strategic interest. It was established on November 19, 1998 by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee with Brajesh Mishra as the first National Security Advisor.
