Etawah, 21 April: Lioness Roopa has given birth to three cubs in the Safari Park located in Etawah district of Uttar Pradesh. All three newborn cubs are completely healthy. The Animal Husbandry Department and Safari Park officials are monitoring the health and behavior of lioness Rupa and the newborn cubs through CCTV cameras. The number of lions in Etawah Safari Park has increased to 21.
Safari Park Director Dr Anil Patel said on Monday that lioness Rupa, born on June 26, 2019 in the lion breeding center of Safari Park, has given birth to three cubs for the third time today. He said that lioness Rupa met lion Kanha from Gujarat on 5 January.
He told that the Safari administration was keeping an eye on the expected date of delivery of lioness Rupa from 17 to 21 April. Lioness Rupa gave birth to the first cub at 12.35 late night, the second cub at 1.42 and the third cub at 5.59 in the morning. Lioness Rupa and all three newborn cubs are healthy. Lioness Rupa and the cubs are being taken care of completely.
He told that earlier on September 3, 2023, lioness Rupa had given birth to a cub, which was hand fed by the keeper and wildlife doctors as the lioness was not feeding it milk, which is now one and a half years old. Earlier, Jessica, the mother of Rupa, another lioness of Safari Park, gave birth to two male cubs Simba and Sultan in the year 2016, male cub Bahubali in the year 2017, two female and one male cub Rupa, Sona and Bharat in the year 2019 and two female cubs Gargi and Neerja in the year 2020.
He further added that apart from this, the late lioness Jennifer of Safari Park, who was brought from Gujarat on September 25, 2020 and whose mother is Jessica, gave birth to male cub Kesari in the year 2020 and a male cub Vishwa in August 2022.
Director said that the Babbar lioness Neerja, born here, also gave birth to three cubs in March 2025. Which are currently more than a month old. Thus, in addition to the three newborn cubs, a total of 16 cubs have been born in the safari.
He told that the three newborn cubs and Babbar lioness Rupa are being taken special care of by a team of veterinarians. The health and behaviour of the lioness Roopa and the three newborn cubs is being constantly monitored through CCTV cameras by Dr R K Singh of Animal Husbandry Department, Uttar Pradesh, Deputy Chief Veterinary Officer, Wildlife Veterinarian of Safari Park, Dr Robin Yadav and Dr Shailendra Singh.
