New Delhi, 25 February: Prime Minister Narendra Modi underlined the government’s commitment to eradicate drug misuse at the grassroots level on Sunday, emphasizing the destructive effects of addiction. He emphasized the need of strong family support networks in successfully combating substance abuse. “Hence, for building a substance-free India, families must be strong as institutions,” added the prime minister.
The Prime Minister addressed the ‘Ashwamedha Yagya’, organized by the Gayatri Parivar, via video message. He began by expressing his reluctance to participate in a ‘Ashwamedh Yagya’ in light of the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections for fear of being misconstrued. However, he stated, “When I watched the Ashwamedha Yagya to defend the feelings of Acharya Shri Ram Sharma and infuse it with new significance, my misgivings melted away.
Modi commended the Gayatri Parivar’s contribution in diverting millions of young people away from addiction and toward nation-building initiatives. “Youth are the future of our nation,” he said, emphasizing their importance in determining India’s destiny and contributing to its progress.
He also emphasized the need of protecting young people from addiction and supporting those who have already been afflicted. “Addiction wreaks havoc on individuals and societies, causing immense damage,” the Prime Minister said, confirming the government’s commitment to the countrywide Drug-Free India campaign, which was initiated three to four years ago and has included over 11 crore people.
The Prime Minister also discussed the substantial outreach initiatives, which included bike rallies, oath-taking ceremonies, and street plays organized in conjunction with social and religious organizations.
As we incorporate our youth into greater national and global projects, they will avoid little wrongdoings, he added, emphasizing youth’s critical role in accomplishing the goals of ‘Viksit and Aatmanirbhar Bharat’.
The theme of the G-20 summit under India’s chair, ‘One Earth, One Family, One Future,’ represents our common human ideals and ambitions, according to the Prime Minister, emphasizing the necessity of joint efforts in global projects such as ‘One sun, one globe, one grid’ and ‘One world, one health.’ He stated that the more we include our children in such national and global efforts, the more likely they are to steer clear of the incorrect road.
Modi commented on the government’s emphasis on sports and science, stating, “The success of Chandrayaan has sparked a new interest in technology among the youth.”
He underlined the transformational power of such programs in directing adolescent energy in the correct direction. He stated that programs such as the Fit India Movement and Khelo India will encourage the youth, and a motivated youth will not succumb to substance misuse.
