New Delhi, 30 September: The Supreme Court has said that the lions on the national emblem in the Central Vista do not violate the State Emblem of India Act. A bench headed by Justice MR Shah dismissed the petition filed by two lawyers.
The petition was filed by Supreme Court Advocates on Record Aldanish Reen and Ramesh Kumar Mishra that the national emblem in the Central Vista is different from the original emblem kept in Sarnath. That the lions are looking furious, their mouths are open, sharp teeth are visible. That such a change in the emblem is against the State Emblem of India Act.
The petition stated that the national emblem is the identity of the Republic of India. By changing the national emblem, Articles 14 and 21 of the Constitution have been violated. It said that doing so is a violation of one’s right to national identity and constitutional trust. The national emblem was adopted as the national seal on January 26, 1950.
