171 tourists from Maharashtra safe, 1 still missing, search op underway in Uttarakhand

Mumbai, 09 August: So far, 171 tourists from Maharashtra stranded due to severe landslide and flood situation in Dharali area of Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand state have been contacted and they are safe.

Out of 172 tourists from different parts of Maharashtra, one tourist Kritika Jain has not been contacted till now, her search is on and instructions have been given to State Emergency Operation Center, Uttarakhand. This information was given by Maharashtra State Emergency Operation Center on Saturday.

State Emergency Operation Center told presser today that out of 171 tourists stranded in this area, 160 tourists (31 Matli, 6 Jolly Grant and 123 Uttarkashi) are safe here. The safe tourists have started their further journey as per their scheduled program. 11 tourists are safe in Harshil and as per the report of Director (Disaster Management), Uttarakhand, the operation of evacuating the tourists stranded in Harsil by helicopter has started.

The State Disaster Control Room of Maharashtra is in constant touch with the State Emergency Operations Centre of Uttarakhand, District Control Room of Uttarkashi and National Emergency Response Centre (NERC), New Delhi.

Chief Minister of Maharashtra is monitoring the situation. State Disaster Management and Water Resources Minister Girish Mahajan has reached the spot in Uttarkashi. Also, the Chief Secretary of Maharashtra along with the Additional Chief Secretary (Disaster Management, Relief and Rehabilitation Department) has reviewed the situation and has contacted the Chief Secretary of Uttarakhand Anand Bardhan over the phone and has requested him to help the stranded people of the Maharashtra.
